Best places to visit in Cornwall (A Guide for 2026)

falmouth harbour

At the foot of Great Britain, you’ll find the delightful coastal county of Cornwall, a rugged peninsula almost entirely surrounded by water. There’s so much to love about Cornwall that it can be hard to decide where to stay in this surprisingly diverse county. Stunning beaches, sweeping coastlines, hidden coves, rolling countryside, and brooding moorland create a unique landscape that makes it unique from the rest of the country.

Cornwall has been a popular holiday destination for decades. And as the most south-westerly county in the UK, it benefits from a more temperate climate than the rest of the country, making it absolutely lovely in the summer months.

Plus, the fact that it boasts over 300 miles of coastline and hundreds of beaches, it’s little surprise that it’s one of the most favoured places for a holiday in the UK.

And it can be difficult to choose which part of Cornwall to visit, so we’ve popped together some of our favorite Cornwall towns and the best places to stay in each. So that you can make a decision based on what sort of holiday you’re after.

Bude

  • Why we love it: A traditional seaside town that’s easy to get to

On the north coast of Cornwall, close to the Devon border, sits the seaside town of Bude. As the northern-most coastal town in Cornwall, travelling to Bude is much easier than reaching the more westerly parts of the county. So it really is an ideal option for a short break by the sea.

Once referred to as the ‘Brighton of the west’, Bude retains the feel of a traditional seaside holiday, with its brightly coloured beach huts, historic sea pool, and selection of independent shops and eateries.

One of the best things about Bude is that there’s so much within walking distance of the town centre, making it easy to see loads during your stay here. Picture days spent wandering through the town, eating ice cream on the beach, discovering the history of Bude Castle, feeding ducks on the canal, and maybe even going for a (cold) dip in the sea pool.

Tucked away behind the town centre and aptly named The Hideaway, a stunning retreat awaits. Just a five-minute walk from town, it’s ideal for discovering the area on foot, meandering through the town, along the canal, and down to the beach. Sleeping four, it’s ideal for a couple, small family, or friends sharing.

Beautifully styled throughout, it’s been finished to a high standard and boasts a hot tub, perfect for unwinding at the end of a busy day out.

Falmouth

  • Why we love it: A vibrant town centred around a bustling harbour

When thinking about a holiday in Cornwall, Falmouth probably isn’t one of the first locations to come to mind, but this gem on the south coast is not to be missed. Vibrant and colourful, Falmouth is a thriving town with so much to discover. Centred around the bustling harbour, cobbled streets are lined with independent shops and eateries, and regular events fill the town with life, laughter, and music.

One of the best ways to experience Falmouth is, unsurprisingly, from the water. Whether enjoying a river cruise or paddleboarding along the gentle waters, you’ll be treated to views of hidden creeks, wildlife, subtropical plants, and the town from a different perspective. Once back on land, get cultural and discover the history of the town at the maritime museum, the headland castle, and the pavilion, all within walking distance.

You really will be spoilt for choice when it comes to finding things to do, as Falmouth is home to several beautiful beaches. And, on the outskirts, multiple glorious subtropical gardens that thrive on the south coast.

Newquay

  • Why we love it: A family-friendly town and a surfing hotspot with multiple beaches

Known for its surfing culture and laid-back charm, Newquay is the perfect pick for a family holiday by the sea, or for a weekend surfing with friends. With multiple beaches on your doorstep, all of which are lifeguarded in the summer, you’ll be spoilt for choice! Picture days spent picnicking on the sand, rock pooling, and surfing the waves.

Those new to surfing can book lessons with one of the surf schools in Newquay. Yep, there’s no better place to learn to ride the waves than the surf capital of the UK.

Aside from the beaches, there’s plenty to see and do, most of which is within walking distance of the bustling town centre. Families will love checking out the zoo, leisure centre (complete with fun pool, trampoline park, and soft play), boating lake and gardens, miniature railway, skatepark, and the renovated park, all of which are grouped together a short walk from the town.

There is also an aquarium just above Towan beach, and a pirate-themed indoor golf adventure in town!

St Ives is the epitome of a Cornish holiday; sandy beaches, azure waters, cobbled lanes, fishing boats, quaint shops, and local food make the perfect recipe for a holiday by the sea.
