Luggage is an essential part of travel, but with the many brands and varying price points available, choosing the right one can be challenging. As someone who travels at least six times a year, I was willing to invest in luggage that is durable, sustainable, and looks good.
So, when Level8 got in touch to offer my husband and me two suitcases to review honestly, it felt like fate. And even though I was familiar with the brand, I decided to do my own research before saying yes. My first thought was that their designs were really stylish, they had a wide variety of colors, and their products have picked up some cool awards, like the Red Dot Design Award and the iF Design Award. The reviews were also great – so, I went ahead and said yes.
And since receiving my luggage from Level8, I’ve used them on three different vacations – so below you can read my honest review before clicking ‘add to cart’.

What do I look for when buying new luggage?
1. Durability
For me, I look for durability above all else, as we travel quite a lot and have two young daughters who tend to like to climb all over our suitcase and even sit on it for a ride. We’ve also seen how luggage can be handled badly by baggage agents. Thus, I always search for luggage made with a high-quality material like polycarbonate or ballistic nylon.
FYI, our Level8 Voyageur Carry-On is made of German-made Makrolon® polycarbonate. And my husband chose the Gibraltar Aluminum Carry-On in grey (which looks so cool, may I add), and that is made of Aerospace-grade aluminum magnesium alloy. His is a little heavier at 4.5 kg and bigger at 55.8 x 38.1 x 21.3 cm – which means it’s more suitable for checking in under the plane, but this works well for my husband as he’s a light packer and prefers being hands-free boarding the plane to help with our daughters.
2. Maneuverability
I also look for luggage that’s easy to wheel – for example, spinner wheels are a green flag for me as it means that I can maneuver my suitcase easily (as I often end up carrying one of my daughters). And our Level8 Voyageur Carry-On has 360° quiet spinner wheels, and our Gibraltar Carry-On has double spinner wheels – both are a dream to wheel around, honestly.
3. Warranty
Something else we look for is a good warranty, and Level8 offers a lifetime warranty. Amazing!
4. Matches the size rules of most airlines
It’s also really important to buy luggage that matches the size rules of the airline you frequently travel with. For us, living in Ireland, we often end up flying with Ryanair, and their rule is that for the larger bag that you can pay extra to put in the overhead locker, the case needs to be (55x40x20 cm and a maximum of 10 kg). Which our Level8 Voyageur is perfect for as the dimensions for the Voyageur is 38.5x25x54.5 cm.
Other things on our list are sturdy telescopic handles, TSA-approved locks, and we prefer hard shell over soft shell suitcases, but that’s a personal preference.

5. Sustainability
How sustainable a company is also another thing that’s very important to me.
And I have to add here that I loved how my Level8 suitcases were packaged up when they were delivered to me – in cardboard boxes and with a thin fabric bag covering the cases instead of any unnecessary plastic wrap. I just hate when I’m sent packages with so much unnecessary packaging – so this was lovely to see and so sustainable!
Taking a further look at their suitcases, I noted how the interior linings in several of their cases are made from recycled PET. This is good!
Why we love Level8

I think I explained above most of why we love our Voyageur and Gibraltar carry-on suitcases, but the highlights of our cases are –
- Aesthetically pleasing and comes in a wide variety of colors. The Voyaguer collection is also a “NewsWeek Readers Choice Award Winner.”
- Durable – made of high-quality, super-durable materials like polycarbonate and Aerospace-grade aluminum magnesium alloy.
- Easy to wheel – the 360° quiet spinner wheels are “as smooth as butter” to wheel around
- The TSA-approved lock is essential for international travel
- Free shipping to the U.S., Canada, and Europe, and the delivery is fast – typically within 3-7 business days
- All luggage comes with a lifetime warranty!
Our favorite features (my honest review of Level8 luggage):

As I said, we’ve had the Voyageur and the Gibraltar carry-ons for a few months now. I’ve taken it on about 3-4 trips, both within Ireland and overseas, as a carry-on. And so far, they’re both holding up really well.
As for inside the suitcase, the organization into separate halves with a zipper compression cover is great and kept things in place, especially as we had fragile items coming back from Malaga, Spain. And as an over-packer, the Voyageur fits so much, and the zip compartments and the lay-out means I can pack neatly.
As I said, my husband chose the Gibraltar Aluminum Carry-On, and it also fits a lot, but the added bonus with this is that it comes with an awesome 4-piece packing cube travel set (worth $49.99 USD), a luggage tag (worth $29.99), and a free Suitcase Cover Protector.

I also love the 360° spinner wheels; it’s a joy to wheel around – it almost feels like you’re not wheeling anything as it’s so smooth, if that makes sense. It even conquered the cobbled streets of Malaga with ease! And according to Level8, their cases are rigorously tested to endure 176,000 wheel rotations and 12,000 handle pulls. Wow!
Plus, the integrated TSA-approved combination lock is incredibly convenient, allowing you to breeze through security checks globally. With this feature, authorized security personnel can open your luggage without damaging the lock, making it essential for international travel.
And of course, I love how stylish both suitcases look; they definitely look luxe, and I noticed a couple of admiring glances from other travelers at the airport.
Any negatives?
The only downside so far is that I chose the light pink color for my Voyageur, and I’m worried it will show scuff marks more easily. And as for my husband’s choice (the Gibraltar Aluminum Carry-On), he says the only minor downside is that it’s heavier than mine at 4.5 kg.
**I will keep updating this review of Level8 luggage as I use the suitcases more, ensuring you’re the first to know whether their durability truly holds up as promised.
