Water Way To Look After Yourself! Keeping Hydrated When You Travel

keeping hydrated when you travel

It is such a simple thing that can make a massive difference to our health. Keeping hydrated is one of those habits that can be hard to maintain while you are travelling. Whether you are going on holiday or venturing on a business trip, keeping hydrated while you travel should be a priority.

Keeping Hydrated When You Travel

Dehydration can worsen the effects of jetlag and can lead to a general feeling of being unwell. Therefore, with this in mind, what should we all do to make sure that we keep ourselves hydrated as we travel? Here’s what I advise for keeping hydrated while you travel:

  • Bring a water bottle
  • Avoid dehydrating drinks & food
  • Hydrate first thing in the morning
  • Eat foods rich in water

Bring a Water Bottle

One of the simplest things that we should all do is to invest in the right water bottle for our needs. You could purchase a collapsible water bottle that is lightweight and helps you save space, or you can purchase one of the many other brands out there, such as Hippo reusable water bottles which can help save the planet. It’s so easy to purchase plastic water bottles while you are on the move, but this will also eat into your budget. One piece of advice: keep it empty when you arrive at the airport. After you go through security, most airports have stations to refill your bottle or the flight.

Avoid Dehydrating Drinks and Foods

Something that we may not necessarily consider, especially if we are eating food on the plane, or are looking for fast food. Processed foods with added sugars and salt can dehydrate you. While you may love a cup of coffee, it acts as a diuretic, causing fluid to pass through your body quickly. If you really need that cup of coffee, make sure you have enough water to offset any feelings of dehydration.

Hydrate First Thing in the Morning

One of the best things we can do, especially if we are going to be out all day, is to have two cups of water upon waking up, and two cups just before going to sleep. Making sure you have enough at the beginning and the end of the day may be able to offset any negative feelings.

Eat Foods Rich in Water

There are many ways for you to help your body stay hydrated. Many fruits and vegetables, such as berries and pineapple, are hydrating, but also, there are certain carbohydrates that you can use because carbohydrates help your body to retain water. When you are out and about, and you need a glass of water, you’ve got to be careful if the water is safe to drink. When in doubt, go to a shop and buy some coconut water. This is full of potassium which helps your body retain water. Also, if you are dehydrated, there are drinks and tablets that contain electrolytes, which also have plenty of potassium to keep you fully stocked with water.

Water is naturally a godsend when you are travelling, it can help you feel better if you’ve had too much sun and would also help nurse any hangovers! Whenever you’re travelling, hydration should be an absolute priority.
