Moving to New York – these are the best towns to visit from your new home!

New York is a vibrant, bustling city and is known as one of the best metropolises in the world. There’s so much to do here, from walking through Central Park, taking a boat to the Statue of Liberty, snapping photos from the top of the Empire State Building to the more simple activity of enjoying a coffee at one of the best Cafes in the Upper East Side!

However, many tourists visiting the state only concentrate on the Big Apple. Although New York City is full of notable sites, there is so much to do and see in New York State. Whether you are a couple or an expat looking for notable sites to visit in New York, the state has so much to offer. There are many well-known waterfalls, gorgeous lakes, and wonderful monuments to tour as a couple or family. 

Below are 7 notable sites to visit in New York if you are considering moving there.

1. Lake Placid

Lake Placid is a famous village near Lake Placid in the Adirondack Mountains, New York. Although it has a small population, it is recognized as a Winter Olympics venue. Thus, it is a great site to visit as a couple. 

If you love sports, Lake Placid should be your next destination. You can choose to do some mountain biking during the summer months, hiking, or skiing in the winter. Also, you need to visit Lake Placid Olympic Museum to see items such as medals and team uniforms. 

Whether you are a visitor or just moved to New York, Lake Placid is an amazing site to visit. 

2. Buffalo

Buffalo is the 2nd largest city in New York State. If you are new and looking for a city to tour, you need to travel to Buffalo. There are attractive outdoor spaces, outstanding museums, and the famous Niagara Falls. 

The place is well known because of sports teams but there is a lot in the city. The weather is cool and it is safe to visit during the day and at night. 

Whether you are looking for a nice restaurant, a nightclub, or a famous monument, Buffalo is worth visiting. 

For instance, you can explore the Nash House Museum. It is a home linked with early civil rights movements. There is also Buffalo Zoo, one of the oldest zoos in America that is worth a visit.

If you are planning to relocate to New York City, there are several great places to consider. Moving is a hassle, especially if the place you are moving to is highly populated and there is much traffic. 

Apart from the famous Big Apple or Buffalo city, Ithaca City is a notable place you need to visit. The place is known for lovely higher education campuses and the astonishing landscape of waterfalls and gorges. Some of the education campuses you can visit include Ithaca College, Cornell University, and many others. 

4. Watkins Glen State Park

If you are planning to tour a calm and quiet area, Watkins Glen State Park is worth visiting. Located in the Finger Lakes Region, it is a great place to engage in outdoor activities and get to see outstanding sights. 

Whether you are touring with family or alone, there is so much to get from the park. For instance, you will encounter 19 different waterfalls. Also, you can get involved in swimming opportunities or fishing. Couples also love camping at the park. 

5. Catskills Mountains

If you love hiking, Catskills Mountains is an area known for its hiking trails. It will take you an hour to drive from New York City to the Catskills Mountains. It is an outstanding area for someone who wants to get away from city life. 

The place is famous for hiking, rich wildlife, ski resorts, and other outdoor activities. Here, you will find Catskill Forest Preserve that is a home for winter sports.

The beautiful beaches and the outdoor refreshment make the island a great site to visit when in New York. Nevertheless, you need to know that Fire Island is seasonal. This means attractions close down during winter.
