FYI, we’ve also visited Lanzarote in April and June and really enjoyed our vacations both times. As again the weather wasn’t too hot and it wasn’t too busy!
Is Lanzarote still hot in October?
Yes, the weather in Lanzarote is still hot in October!
With an average high of 26° and a low of 18° in October – the temperatures in Lanzarote sound pretty ideal to me. It’s warm but not as hot as the scorching Summer temperatures, so, beachwear during the day and a light cardigan or jumper in the evenings will be ideal. With nine hours of sunshine daily in October – you will be certain to get lots of sun-tanning hours in.
Where to stay in Lanzarote in October
Here I will give a detailed description of the three most popular areas on Lanzarote – Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise, and Playa Blanca. It also lists the best hotels in each area in which to stay.
1. Puerto del Carmen
Puerto del Carmen is the perfect area to base yourself in October. It is one of the busiest tourist areas in Lanzarote, so, you will still find lots to do in the typically quieter month of October. The 6km stretch of golden sand beach that runs the length of the main town is likely where you will spend most of your daily hours should you choose to stay in Puerto del Carmen – it is a blue flag beach so it is safe to swim here.
There are well over 100 restaurants on the Avenida de Las Playas alone, this is the main street in Playa del Carmen. And all the restaurants and bars here depend on year-round tourism. So, even in October, you will have your pick of the restaurants and bars.
In Puerto del Carmen, we highly recommend staying in one of the following stunning hotels:
- Gloria Izaro Club Hotel – located 650m from the beach with a large outdoor pool and air-conditioning in each room. A one-bedroom apartment (including breakfast) costs from €85 per night
- Gueldera Apartments – just 400m from the quieter Playa de los Pocillos, each apartment here offers a terrace . A standard apartment costs from €57 per night.
- Rocas Blancas Apartments – just 50m from the main beach in Puerto del Carmen, you are certainly right in the middle of the action – making it ideal for couples. There are stunning views from your private balcony. A one-bedroom apartment costs from €70 per night.
2. Costa Teguise
Nicknamed breezy Teguise due to the cooling breeze that blows over the area every so often. Costa Teguise is ideal for families, given it’s a little quieter than Puerto del Carmen. Beach-wise – Bastian beach is ideal for families with small children since it is easily accessible and protected from the winds. Jablillo beach is also stunning with its fine white sand.

In Teguise town why not visit the Pueblo Marinero, which is a cluster of typical Canary buildings developed by artist Cesar Manrique. It is home to many restaurants, bars and stores, as well as a market held every Friday from 7pm.
On the Costa Teguise, we highly recommend one of the following hotels:
- Oasis Lanz Beach Mate – located a short walk from the town and just 350m from the beach. It is surrounded by gardens and has two heated swimming pools as well as a tennis court. A deluxe room (including breakfast) costs from €97 per night.
- Apartamentos El Guarapo – just 200m from Playa Bastian beach and 300m from the main town. All apartments are set around a gorgeous central swimming area with a kitchen in each apartment making it easy to prepare your own meals if you so wish. A one-bedroom apartment costs from €60 per night.
3. Playa Blanca
Playa Blanca is both peaceful and stunning, and is the third largest tourism area on the island (behind Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise). And it’s actually our favorite place to stay on the island!
The Playa Blanca boardwalk is where the majority of the bars and restaurants are located. The recreational port is also worth a visit as there is a large shopping centre here.
The best beaches in Playa Blanca are Dorada, Flamingo and Papagayo. With the latter (Papagayo) being the most popular with its white sandy coves.
In Playa Blanca, we highly recommend these hotels:
- Casa Real – a little further from Playa Blanca at 1km away and 750m from Dorado beach, it is worth a stay for the value-for-money alone. Each apartment has a terrace and two bedrooms. A stay here costs from €95 per night.
- Bungalows Coloradamar – just a few minutes walk from Papagayo beach, the resort has a communal pool with a hot tub. Each apartment has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen and patio. A stay here costs from €125 per night.
What can I do in Lanzarote in October?
If you have a rental car, driving in Lanzarote is relatively easy and stress-free. Alternatively, the Lanzarote bus service is very reliable and cheap – you can view the bus timetable here.
1. Take a day trip to Caleta de Famara
A long, winding road with stunning volcanic scenery on either side will take you to the unique town of Caleta de Famara. Famous for kite-surfing, Famara, as it’s affectionately known by locals has a more relaxed vibe than other towns on the island.
There are a few seafood restaurants here, overlooking the sea, most with a lovely outdoor terrace. A bus ride here from most resorts should cost you €2.50.
2. Stroll around the capital city Arrecife
We were pleasantly surprised by Arrecife and its white-washed buildings, our favourite area was Charco de San Ginés boat lake which has lots of cool bars and restaurants overlooking the beautiful boat lake. Take your pick of the bars and sit outside with a coffee or a beer.
The Castillo de San Gabriel is located on a tiny island in Arrecife, which can be reached by foot via a small ball bridge. In the 16th century the Castillo played a vital role in the protection of the harbour and the town. It is worth a visit for the views over the Atlantic Ocean alone.
3. Visit old-school and charming Teguise
The small former capital of Lanzarote has lovely cobbled streets and is a joy to walk around. Every Sunday morning a large market takes over Plaza de San Miguel, it is very popular with locals and tourists alike.
There are street entertainers to entertain the kids should you decide to bring them. Another, must-see in Teguise is the castle of Santa Bárbara which stands atop the Guanapay volcano, overlooking the town.
4. Visit Lanzarote Aquarium
A great thing to do if you’re traveling with kids, The Lanzarote Aquarium is one of the biggest aquariums in the Canary Islands. It is located in Costa Teguise and is home to various species of tropical and local Canarian fish as well as ocean predators like sharks. You can also see eels, hermit crabs, and more here!
5. Go shopping!
We visited the Biosfera Shopping Center in Puerto del Carmen a few times during our visits to the island and although small it has everything you need for a great day of shopping. For example, Zara, Stradivarius Levis, Footlocker, and more are located here.
The biggest shopping center on the island is in Arrecife – it’s called Lanzarote Open Mall and it only opened in 2022. It’s got 3 floors and lots of shops, and restaurants. We spent a few hours here on our last visit to Lanzarote and I shopped in Pull & Bear, Zara, Primark, Bimba y Lola, and Stradivarius. We had a rental car to get here and there’s plenty of parking – around 1,000 car spaces.
6. Jameos del Agua
Jameos del Agua is best described as a unique lagoon that is 7 meters deep and is located inside a cave. It is home to the famed blind crab. These tiny albino crabs are not found anywhere else in the world!.
The cave was formed due to the collapse of the volcanic tube of La Corona and it’s such a photogenic and unusual place. We took lots of photos. There’s also a museum on-site called the Casa de los Volcanos, which you pay a little extra for but it’s well worth it to learn more about how the cave was formed.
7. Jardin de Cactus
The Jardin de Cactus is exactly what it says on the tin – a garden filled with cactus. Would you believe, there are around 4,500 cactus here? And they’re all different shapes and sizes. And there’s a massive 8-meter cactus at the entrance that’s so cool to see!
I recommend spending around two hours here, an adult ticket costs €8. It’s located in the small town of Guatiza around a 30-minute drive from Puerto del Carmen.

Avoid Lanzarot in Feb and March. 15degC air temp , cloudy and some rain – at least now for the rest of the week 22nd -29th of March here !! On top of that it’s dark at 7pm. I would definitly not recommend it if you re looking for heat and sun.
Thank you for your comment, yes I agree February and March can be very ‘iffy’ weather-wise – if you want to sunbathe then later in the year is definitely best.
Great tips here! Thank you! 🙂
