What is Pocket Wifi? Is Pocket WiFi good for travel? I’ll answer these questions and more in the below detailed blog post!

Are you planning a vacation (perhaps to a remote location) and worried about how you can stay connected? That’s understandable, having good internet is a top priority for many travelers in this day and age. So, in this blog post, I will detail how a Pocket WiFi device works and list the reasons why it’s great for travelers.

As a blogger, I need to have a good internet connection when I travel – because I NEVER stop working. Fellow self-employed people will feel my pain. And when I found myself in Lanzarote with my family recently with a terrible internet connection and a project due for a client I panicked, then, I remembered I’d packed my Pocket WiFi device and was able to connect to the internet easily and submit the project on time!

No matter where in the world you are, you can have bad internet – yes, even in a large hotel (that’s what happened to me) and so if you need internet on your vacation it’s best not to rely on public wifi and instead bring a Pocket WiFi device with you!

Is Pocket WiFi good for travel?

I lived in Alicante for a few months and used my Pocket WiFi regularly here!

Yes, 100% – Pocket WiFi is good for travel! As a professional blogger, I often struggled to find public wifi in more remote locations while I was traveling. As I said, recently, in Lanzarote and Alicante, I found myself in an off-the-beaten-path location without public wifi and I had projects due for clients and so my Pocket WiFi hotspot came in handy!

Limited or lack of public wifi is a common problem for those who travel a lot, whether you need internet for business (like me) or simply need to check your Instagram feed.

Imagine being in a bustling city, trying to navigate through unfamiliar streets, or needing to check your travel itinerary while waiting for a flight – having reliable internet access is essential. Some of us are lucky enough to have Wi-Fi in our cars, but this system doesn’t work everywhere!

As the name suggests, a pocket WiFi is a tiny mobile router. It allows you to connect multiple devices wirelessly on the go, making it an essential tool for travelers. These devices are small and designed to fit easily in your pocket or purse, allowing you to stay connected while exploring new destinations or submitting a client’s project (me).

They weigh hardly anything but provide the ability to connect multiple devices to a steady connection, regardless of where you are – whether you’re lounging at a café in Paris or navigating the streets of Tokyo. With pocket WiFi, you can share your travel experiences in real-time, stay updated on flight information, or keep in touch with loved ones back home without the hassle of searching for public WiFi hotspots.

How does Pocket WiFi work?

They are fairly simple devices that work in much the same way a cell phone does. The Pocket Wifi uses a SIM card to connect to the local mobile network to create a little hotspot in your pocket. Once connected, the device sends out a wifi signal in just the same way a home wifi router does.

The great thing about these devices, aside from them being lightweight and small, is that they are easy to use and set up. Setting up a pocket wifi is as simple as connecting to your wifi network at home.

Depending on the model you choose, the wifi range is typically between 30-50 feet for these devices, but some can provide an even stronger signal. This means that you can easily have the Pocket Wifi in your bag or purse and connect to your nearby devices with ease.

This isn’t going to be the solution for travelers who need wifi coverage over a large area, but they work really well for small areas such as a hotel room or apartment. They are affordable and easy to use, making it a great choice, even for those who aren’t technically savvy.

Most models allow you to connect multiple devices to the same network. In fact, there are some that allow you to connect 10 or more devices to a single Pocket WiFi, which is great for those who are traveling as a group or family. You don’t lose a ton of strength by connecting multiple devices, which means that everyone can use their devices for what they want when they want.

Can I use Pocket WiFi anywhere?

Yes, provided there is an available mobile internet connection you can use this device anywhere in the world!

It should be noted that this device only works as good as the mobile network you connect it to. It does not create an internet connection. Rather, it connects to a mobile network and allows the device to send a personal wifi signal over a small area of space that you can use to connect devices to.

Handily, they are inexpensive and you can often find these devices for less than $50 USD!

Final thoughts!

A Pocket WiFi device makes it possible for you to connect devices that don’t have a mobile network to the internet. They are a great way to use all the devices you need when you are traveling. Basically, what a Pocket WiFi does is turn you into a wifi hotspot.

In short, with easy connectivity and the ability to host multiple devices over a localized area makes it a great way to ensure all your devices stay connected, even when you are on the go.
