1. Minimalist Modern Cabin, Morongo Valley, California
This unique cabin perched atop the hills of the Yucca Valley is the perfect desert getaway. The clear walls bring the outdoors inside. It is completely off the grid and is solar-powered. Outside is a private deck with a fire pit (enjoy toasted smores here on a starry night).
From here explore Joshua Tree National Park or a little closer to home are some great trails that lead directly from your door.
Stay here for a 360-degree view of stunning desert scenery. This one can be booked via Rent by Owner.
2. Whiskey Creek Cabin, Idyllwild, California
The laid-back vibe of this wooden cabin is certain to be exactly what the doctor ordered after if you’ve had a stressful year. It is surrounded by pine trees to give you a secluded feel. Yet, Whiskey Creek Cabin is close to the mountain town of Idyllwild.
Ask the host for directions to some awesome secret hikes nearby
Order yummy food from local fave Gastrognome in the evenings. In the Winter months get cozy by the window with a good book and a glass of wine and watch the snow dump outside.
3. Tanglebloom Cabin, Brookline, Vermont
Located on a flower farm, this glamping-style cabin is open to the elements. Lovingly handcrafted by the owners, its cozy minimalist interiors have everything you need for a romantic weekend away. It is located less than three hours from Boston.
Ask your host for directions to her favorite waterfall. There are also hikes, rural biking trails, and swimming spots nearby.
You’re also close to Brattleboro, Vermont (20 mins) & Stratton Mountain Resort (25 mins).

4. Casa Mami, Pioneertown, California
A pueblo-style bright white tiny home in the middle of the Californian desert. Casa Mami is surrounded by towering cacti, unusual wildlife. At night the starry sky is a sight to behold – believe me, the night sky here is so clear.
The house has been designed to bring the outdoors in, and what’s even more cool is that a selection of products on display in the house are for sale. This home has been featured in numerous home and design magazines and when you stay here you stay here you’ll see why!
Just a two-hour car journey from Los Angeles. And less than 20 minutes to the town of Joshua Tree, you’ll be completely off the grid but close enough to restaurants, bars and shops.
5. Dream Rock Silo, Independence, Virginia
Now here’s a transformation worth seeing – a 1950s dairy barn turned Airbnb. It was just completed in 2018. The silo has 4 floors total and the top two are yours to rent.
Follow the spiral staircase up to your ginormous round bed after a day of exploring. Your room up here has windows all around offering 360-degree views of the mountains and valley.
6. The Woodlands House, Sandy, Oregon
Set within 5 acres of private forest, this gorgeous house is surprisingly large with 4 bedrooms and 2 outdoor decks. A relaxing space with a wood-burning fireplace on all levels. From one of the outdoor decks, you may spot native deer coming for a drink from the little stream nearby. But the real selling point here is the large 6-person outdoor hot tub.
A short 20-minute drive from Mount Hood and 45 minutes from Portland International Airport.
Stay here for rustic cabin vibes and of course that AH-MAZING outdoor hot tub!
7. Area 55 Futuro House, Joshua Tree, California
Now, this is certainly one of the most unique Airbnbs in the United States!
There are only 85 of these Futuro Houses in the world (19 of which are in the USA) but this is the only one you can rent for a night or more. This place looks like it could take off at any moment to explore space.
This is an off-grid glamping experience so disconnect and truly take in your surroundings. Solar power is available to charge your small electronic devices as well as for the sound system and the all-important coffee machine.
Eat your dinner under the stars next to the outdoor fire pit. You can book it via Host Unusual below!

8. Fernside A-frame, Indian River, Michigan
Lovingly constructed on the banks of the Sturgeon River is this cute and rustic A-frame. A wall of windows keeps the light and warmth in during daylight whilst at night its design makes you think you are almost floating amongst the stars.
There’s a fully equipped kitchen and BBQ for your use, as well as two bedrooms (one on the main floor the other in the loft).
In the Summer or warmer months take a swim in the river or use the tube that’s tied to a tree. You can book this one directly on their website at the link below.
9. Point of the Point, Marquette, Michigan
A wooden A-frame nestled deep in the woods of the Upper Peninsula. It has floor-to-ceiling windows so you can take in the gorgeous views of Lake Superior.
Sit by the lake in the Summer with a good book or in the Winter months I’d rather plonk myself next to the woodfired stove.
This place is everything but it’s mostly harmonious and serene, exactly what the doctor ordered.
It is a short drive from downtown Marquette or Munising.
10. Stone City Treehouse, Hardwick, Vermont
Feel your stress and anxiety wash away in the silence surrounding this super-cute treehouse.
Relax by the fireplace, walk through the woods, go hiking. There’s an adorable little outdoor space with a hammock and campfire spot right on the stream that looks up to a lovely view of the treehouse.
Your bed is up the loft ladder in what the owners call ‘the nest’. So quaint and cozy! You can book this cute spot direct on their website below.
11. Treetop Lakehouse, Rosman, North Carolina
Epic mountain views, an expansive deck, and 500 feet of lake frontage await you at this treehouse in North Carolina.
Situated on 3 acres, there are two fireplaces inside (one in the living room, the other in a little room off the main bedroom). There’s the options for 4 bedrooms here so it’s ideal for large groups or families. This is open living at its finest, all the spaces flow together really nicely.
In the lake itself, no motorized boats are allowed, giving you the perfect opportunity to enjoy the peace & quiet or take out a canoe on the peaceful water.

12. Midcentury home, Palm Springs, California
Gorgeous classic midcentury home with a huge yard and an outdoor swimming pool. Lovely mountain views surround the property. It’s light & bright and is the epitome of indoor/outdoor living.
There are 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, an outdoor fireplace, and of course that epic swimming pool I mentioned.
Design and architecture aficionados will love this place! The Alexander Butterfly Roof is a highlight of its design. A huge plus too is that it’s just 5 minutes to all the best Palm Springs attractions.
13. Lakefront Loft, Lake Memphremagog, Vermont
In fall the scenery here is epic, I mean it! Go fishing, swimming, and hiking in the Summer, and in Winter take up ice fishing (why not!) or cross-country skiing.
Inside is a surprisingly spacious 2 bedroom loft. Outside is a fire pit, a BBQ, and a private lake access dock.
This cute spot is located just 10 minutes from Newport and 30 minutes from Jay Peak & Owl’s Head in Canada.
14. Modern Mountain Chalet, Bozeman, Montana
Sit in the hot tub at night and admire the stars. During the day enjoy the views of the Absaroka mountain range – like a painting honestly!
Cozy and rustic inside, you’ll be very happy by the wood-burning stove with a good book and a glass of wine. Two large bedrooms with heated floors, both done in luxury cabin style!
Just a short drive from Yellowstone National Park. Spot deer, elk, and grouse from the deck.
